Black Orpingtons

While My Brothers  Buff Orpingtons are well renown by the general public, My Brothers Black Orpingtons are the most important to maintain the ideal type of the breed. The black brings type, feather quality, and size to the Orpingtons. The Black is primarily used with “splitting” to create new colors. The Black brings out the better lacing on the Blues. The black is our foundation, and is one of the most important factors in Breeding the Orpington. While you know the Buff, My Brother, as with other breeders, know their Blacks!

My Brother tells me that the genetics of Black is the cleanest and purest. The Blacks have the feathers that should be broad and smooth fitting on the deep and massive body. Their great massiveness should be from the birds, and not be a smaller bird hidden under extreme length of feathers in the plumage. Their fluff should be comparatively straight with full but not profuse feathering.

My Brothers Black Roosters are massive birds in bone. My Brothers black hens are equally large. But all are friendly, non-aggressive birds giving us plenty of eggs to work with. Elusive of the camera, My brother does not have the quality of photographs these Blacks Deserve! By far our largest birds, no picture can do them justice. My Brother and I welcome you to visit our little farm and see these  massive sweet natured, bashful birds for yourself!
