Introducing My Brothers Peeps

Old English

My Brother has Old English Game Bantams and they very popular because of their alertness, upright appearance, and confident personality!! They are one of the smallest chicken breeds, weighing about 22 oz when they are fully grown. The Old English Game Bantam is one of the most popular bantam breeds. A small, tightly feathered bird, Old English Games are very hardy, extremely active and very noisy. They are the domestic breed most like the wild jungle fowl in appearance.

Old EnglishWhile they are a great pet for children, My Brother feels that they are not for the beginner to raise to show. While the males in all of these varieties are very striking with bright colored plumage and a certain "cockiness" to their identity, they are a single comb breed with the comb being dubbed for show purposes. The mature cocks must be dubbed (have the comb and wattles removed) for show with a characteristic cut that must be done by someone with experience. This tradition is in keeping with their fighting heritage.

My Brothers Old English Games are the modern day descendants of the ancient fighting cocks. They are associated with England but their heritage is almost worldwide and they have changed little in shape or appearance in more than 1,000 years. They are one of the oldest strains of poultry breeds that have been used for fighting purposes. Through the Middle Ages the breed was developed by the English Nobility into many varying colors, traits desirable for cockfighting were chosen by breeders. Cockfighting became illegal in Britain and Australia in the 1850s and now they are usually kept just by poultry enthusiasts.

My Brother recommends joining the Old English Game Bantam Club of America and the Old English Game Bantam Brassy Back Club.
