My Mom! Mom has often told us of how she grew up in Washington State showing horses and cats in 4H. From the area fair, to the county fair, to the state fair! Her stories of hard work and the fun she had always excites us! She always told us that when we were old enough, we could join 4H in whatever project we wanted. The 4H county we joined is small, there is no area show. And you do not need to Qualify to go to State. And my Mom supported us in all we chose. Last year she supported us in Food Preservation, Cat Showmanship, Demonstrations, Educational displays, Record Books, and of course, Poultry!
When My Brother and I chose chickens, My Mom did not know anything about showing chickens! We started out with a couple Ameraucanas. This is how we met Pam Padilla and her son Cody. They raise the Best Ameraucanas. We became her friends and started to follow her to shows. Soon My Mom met Lacey Greer and 115 chickens later, the rest is history!
Thanks to My Mom, and the support of all of her friends, we can now compete with the best of them, with our favorite breeds. While my Mom’s focus for us has been 4H, we show mostly open classes and youth classes at APA and ABA shows. Mom still makes us continue with our 4H record books. She says it is very important to keep good financial and breeding records in any animal that you maintain.
My Mom helped us build our chickens coops. My Mom helped us build our carriers. My Mom has been the backbone of our project. My Mom takes care of all of our birds when we are away. My Mom had a crash course in breed recognition, APA standards, Conditioning, Diet (as My Mom mixes her own feeds) bathing, grooming, showmanship, and most importantly, keeping all of our little Peeps healthy! She had to learn all of this to teach it all to My Brother and I. My Mom has been the cornerstone of our project, yet gives us all the credit.
My Mom may be stingy with her Cornish Bantams, but we still love Our Mom!! My Brother and I feel that she deserves her own page on our My Brothers Peeps website…. even though she is not one of the brothers! We Love you Mom! Thank you for Everything!
