Buff Orpingtons heavy, full plumage make them excellent winter layers, shelling out brown eggs right through cold weather. If you had to depend on just one breed to survive, My Brother would recommend that you surivie with the best of them, the Buff Orpington.
Orpingtons were developed in England at the town of Orpington in County Kent during the 1880s. The original Orpington (the Black) was developed in 1886 by William Cook. Between 1889 and 1905, Cook also created White Orpingtons, Buff Orpingtons and Blue Orpingtons. The breed was famous for its great egg-capacity. William Cook brought his Orpingtons to the Madison Square Garden show in 1895 and made a large exhibit of Black Orpingtons.
My Brother was very lucky to start his flock out with the best birds in the Nation. We have just begun our journey with Buff Orpingtons and are starting out with stock from a national winner. Look at the size of these wonderful birds!!
My Brother is only 12, but he is as big as my Mom. Look at him attempt to move Yellow Jacket from his coop to take his picture! And this massive bird is so kind and gentle to My Brother!
My Brother will be focusing on the Continental United States version of the Standard of Perfection while continuing to strive for the best of the best, both for the show ring, and the public!
