Zayne

My Brother Zayne was too young to be in 4H when we started. But My Brother Zayne was not to be left out! Being a small community, they still allowed Zayne to do some events.

Now Zayne is of Dixon descendant and My Mom says My Brother Zayne is just like his Uncle Shane. They seem to have a gift with Animals! And from day one, Zayne has the eye to pick out the best! I always ask My Brother his opinion of which chicken to take to the shows, and the ones he picks are almost always Best of something!

My Brother annoys me as he follows me around. And we fight while doing chores. But My Brother is my Best Friend and I benefit, as he can certainly pick the breed to show and pick the birds to show with.

My Brother also helps me set up breeding pens. Though he is young, he is like a sponge. He may not look like he is paying attention, but he listens to everything the old timers say. We were at a Master Breeders house once. Lacey showed us his past national winners. Zayne did not follow us while talking, instead he stayed with the birds.

When Lacey said "pick out any cockerel you want" .... Laceys jaw dropped open when Zayne did not pick one of the cockerels on display, but a tiny beat up, ill conditioned cockerel in a back little cage. That cockerel was just brought in from the "teenager" coop cause he had started a fight he couldn't finish. And his comb and waddles showed the evidence.

Zayne took that cockerel home, medicated his comb, worked on his poses, and now it is a real tough bird to beat today. We call him BushWacker after a champion PBR bull.

I am sure glad I have different breeds than My Brother, cause My Brother is real tough to beat in Competition! But he is certainly a great friend to keep around, My Brother.
